COCKROACHES! AAArghhhhh!!! |
But you knew that! When you put on the light and the darn things run, you knew they could travel almost 1 metre in a second - and if you got anywhere near one with your carpet slipper, you knew they could twist and turn up to 25 times in a second. Bloomin' obvious - after all , you never caught one! |

A cockroach can zip round your kitchen, keeping to a fixed path - round the cabinets, along the edge of the rug, under the dog's nose, without straying a milimetre from its chosen path! It whizzes round your foot as you stamp in its general direction, succeeding only in squelching that bit of pizza that fell from your plate when you weren't looking, without losing a stride! And it doesn't need the light on to see where it's going! |

They've had millions of years to hone that super sensitive nervous system. You are a slow moving clod in comparison. How do they do it? Visit the New Scientist and check it out! |
