I n October 1985, eight members of the Rembrandt Dutch Club, some of them already involved with the Sunrise Choral Society, decided to start a male choir. This small group, under the directorship of Mr Harry Joosten, grew in two years to a group of sixteen. The philosophy of the Choir is to endeavour, at all times to maintain artistic purity of their performances. This is achieved by singing all songs in the language they were originally written. For special occasions, the Choir will perform in their traditional Dutch costumes. These costumes are a replica of the costume depicted in the master painting "The Nightwatch" by Rembrandt Van Rijn. Today's multicultural choir is a mixture of Dutch, Australian, German and Welsh born men. The choir is unique in the way it delivers their eastern European sound and often performs its music in a-Capella form. The Choir has performed for a variety of occasions and locations such as: Nursing Homes, Shopping Centres. It has also performed at the Sydney Town Hall, The Opera House, Bowral Tulip Time Festival, Orange Field days. During the visit of Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands the choir gave a royal command performance at the Sydney Hilton Hotel. The choir also performed at the arrival of the tall ships in 1988, Darling Harbour and often at fundraising occasions for local service clubs as well as private functions. We invite you all to visit the Rembrandt Dutch Club enjoy the atmosphere of our rehearsals. The Rembrandt Chub is situated at 87 Dunheved Circuit St Marys, NSW, Australia. The Rembrandt Male Choir is always looking for anyone who shares our love for music arid as a reasonable singing voice to join our choir and participate in this pleasurable pastime The current Director of Music is Mr Richard Bournes and the accompanist is Mrs Joy Parry. |
