The
Mountain Chorus The original Mountain Opera Chorus commenced productions at Springwood NSW in 1990. The Chorus was developed from a section of the "Mountain Opera" musical group. The Mountain Opera Chorus group stage one major production annually. The Mountain Opera Chorus provides opportunities for all those people interested in singing so that they can practise their art. The chorus consists of approximately twenty voices. The Mountain Opera Chorus takes great pleasure in presenting a wide range of musical material. The spirited group is keen to expand their repertoire and so build expertise bringing the culture of major cities to our mountains. Some of the productions of Mountain Opera to which the chorus has contributed is, "Ia traviata", "Don Giovanni", "Die Fledermaus", "Rigoletto", "La Boheme" and "I pagliacci". The productions are performed as full-scale productions in the Springwood High School. Mountain Opera Chorus sings at nursing homes and other locations and functions such as the Glenbrook Theatre, Blue Mountains Grammar School and the Community Centre at Blackheath. During the 1995 season the Mountain Opera Chorus were in a production of Henry Purcell's opera "Dido and Aeneas" a challenging undertaking, as opera buffs would appreciate. The chorus was up to the challenge and demonstrated their professionalism and quality musical capabilities. In 1996 the chorus embarked upon an independent pathway. Although the links with the Mountains Opera productions is still the major activity of the chorus they are keen to broaden their expenences. In 1997 the chorus presented in a production of the Gilbert and Sullivan's "Trial by Jury" together with Sullivan's little known "Cox and Box" a treat not to be missed. The group has regularly appeared at Leura Golf Club and at Closeburn House, Mt Victoria. Today, our Australia Day Celebration, the Mountains Opera Chorus is singing for us, and they said, "We hope all will enjoy our contribution to the music of the day as much as we enjoy singing". |
